To our members; This past January we lost two longtime members, Larry Mikesell and Pete Hawkins, who helped to develop our Post to what it is today. Larry and Pete both donated many hours and resources to the Bothell American Legion. They will both be missed by all who knew them. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families. Services for Pete will be on Friday, February 5th at 1:00 pm at Floral Hills Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held for Larry on Saturday, February 6th at 1:00 pm at his home.

On December 28th the building plans were submitted to Snohomish County Building Department for their approval. If there are no code corrections we should have our permit in February. While we were at the permit desk we also paid for a demolition permit. Officially demo cannot begin until the asbestos abatement has been completed. Asbestos testing was completed and it was not as bad as expected, only the tile mastic in the living room, bathrooms and kitchen need to be removed. Luckily the ceiling insulation didn't contain asbestos, that would have been an additional $6000 charge. The abatement contractor should have his permits before the end of January and then demo of the existing structure will start after the asbestos is disposed of. In the meantime outside work can be done. The fir tree and rhody near the front corner of the carport will be removed and the walnut tree in the back yard will be pruned. At this time our contractor, Troy McGuire is getting material and subcontractor bids so that construction can begin soon. With God willing and the creek don't rise, we hope to have a grand opening on the 4th of July.
